NEGRI: autonomous and perforating two-energy solutions

The context.

NEGRI is involved in a number of activities such as dredging, bailout, marine engineering, threshing, maritime civil engineering, maritime logistics and underwater work.

NEGRI's know-how lies in maintenance, extension or creation of maritime infrastructure. The workshops are based in Fos sur mer and the company has a dock 100 meters long. NEGRI maintains its fleet of more than 20 units by its own means, ensuring their smooth operation in France and internationally.

Company profile

NEGRI is a shipping company that has existed since 1918. She has significant expertise in her sector of activity. The company operates from the design phase to the implementation phase of maritime infrastructure projects.

The challenge.

The customer had to equip oil unloading areasefficient and autonomous lighting. So he was looking for a solar LED solution. Of course in this type of hazardous environment, hydrocarbons, it was imperative that the installations be completely ATEX Zone 2. Indeed, the proximity of the unloading vessels and the platform is very short, which can create significant risks.
The ensemble was mounted at the port of Douala in Cameroon as part of a construction project carried out by NEGRI. The equipment concerned is lighting panels and batteries.

Our approach.

In order to respond as effectively as possible, several solutions have been studied: mast panels and batteries, a floating solar station, solar panels on earth, bi-energy solutions outside ATEX area with batteries and all connected with submarine cables.. It is finally the two-energy solution outside ATEX area with the batteries that was retained by the customer.

Our solution.

To achieve this installation we recommended 300 linear meters of 6mm2 marine cable for the connection between each projector and its solar panel as well as a battery box equipped with a solar controller and a regulator. Connection boxes were added for connection on each side of the cable. In addition, we modified the projector with an ATEX zone 2 and a remote control to remotely adjust 4 power modes. In order to position the solar panel we have taken into account sunlight and verticality. Indeed the solar radiation in Cameroon is very good, and Cameroon is less than 12° latitude, so it was wise to use our vertical solar panel on a much higher mat (25 meters approx.).

The equipment put in place.

  • 1 set of solar panels with a total power of 240W (SZG560-100W + SZG560-140W) installed vertically on a 25 metre mast. The power was determined by our calculations. Our calculations included LED energy consumption, lighting hours, lighting power, load factor, solar radiation in Cameroon.
  • 1 set of batteries to power 30W-LED lighting running 12 hours including 3 hours at 100% full power and 9 hours at 30% of full power. The battery requirement from our calculations was 420Wh and we installed LiFePO4-Lihtium battery with a 5-year warranty. Our calculations included backup days in case of cloudy / rainy days, storage of battery energy, the operating powers required for leds.
  • 1 ATEX Zone 2 30W LED lighting intended to illuminate a traffic area of 5m x 4m. We chose a model in 40W the WRTLE310-40W (IP66) because with this model we could lower the power to 30W by lowering the input current. It is equipped with an automatic detector so that the luminaire automatically lights up in the evening and turns off automatically in the morning.
