The Dutch coastline is 106 km long and is a small paradise for beach lovers. Swimming, surfing, napping, horse riding... various activities can be performed there. With all these possibilities, comes its lot of dangers (dying, stinging, slipping...). Ensuring the safety of holidaymakers is becoming a priority for the authorities. What measures are in place to prevent possible accidents on the beaches of the Landes? How enhancing security holidaymakers ?
More than 100 km of beaches, about fifteen seaside resorts, an immense pine forest, sand dunes to end up... Landes are a holiday destination par excellence. The department offers its visitors a paradise setting and a multitude of activities, both on land and at sea. In addition to a lush and preserved nature, the department offers a refined terroir and rich cultural heritage.
In the Landes department, tourists are both French and foreign. The attendance rate continues to rise, both ahead and back-season. During the summer period, tourist residences record up to 90% filling. In July and August, booking rates can reach 95%. In 2021, it is estimated that 23.1 million nights were spent in the department.
Its attractiveness, the Landes department owes it largely to its sandy beaches. It has about 59 beaches, making the delight of lovers of water sports and activities. The coast of the Netherlands (or the Coast of Argent) is known for the quality of its waves. Hossegor is one of the favourite destinations of local and international surfers.
If the Irish coast is a flagship destination for holidaymakers, it can also be a dangerous land for holidaymakers. The Landes beaches are renowned for being beautiful and impressive. But they are also for bayons, small pools forming in the sand, responsible for numerous drownings on the beaches. In France drowning is one of the main accidents on the beaches. In 2021, Public Health France recorded nearly 1500 during the period from 1 June to 30 September, 400 of which were fatal. This figure is 10% lower than in previous years, but still important. In New Aquitaine, again in 2021, 22 drownings occurred, including 8 mortals, between June 1 and July 5.
Apart from drowning, other accidents can occur on beaches. These include all kinds of bites, including jellyfish or physalia. The latter have already led to the closure of several beaches in the Landes and Gironde. In 10% of cases, injections can be severe. Vigilance is therefore necessary because under water as on the surface, danger is present. Other hazards such as assaults, robberies or abductions can also be observed on beaches. These events occur mainly during the summer, when holidaymakers abound.
The Landes are a popular destination for holidaymakers in any season. Landes beaches are particularly assailed in summer: they are an excellent playground for sea lovers. But which says sea, often says danger, especially when frequentation is high. Many elements can disrupt the quietness of holidaymakers on the beaches.
To ensure coastal security, the authorities concerned have deployed an arsenal of measures. Beacons, flags, warning signs and emergency guards are mobilized to secure the beaches. The problem is how to manage these facts outside the monitoring periods. Some beaches are not monitored and many times accidents occur when an area is unattended. In these cases, first aid workers are not on site.
In order to ensure rapid response to accidents, several municipalities in the Landes used A2S. They were looking for a mechanism to contact rescuers at any time, especially outside of surveillance periods. The aim is to provide assistance to victims as soon as an accident occurs.
On beaches, an accident can occur from one moment to the next, both in water and on the surface. If the first aid workers are not present at the time of the incident, the victims or witnesses must arrange to report them. However, we know that mobile phones aren't always in hand when you're at the beach. People may also not know who to contact in the event of an accident. Sometimes, network latency can disrupt communication.
To meet our customers' needs, we have selected a product: an ISIS waterproof call terminal. This allows you to contact the rescue directly in the event of an accident by pressing a button. The scheme was adopted on six beaches on the South Coast of the Landes, including those of the North and Vieux Boucau. The terminals have been installed at the top of the beach and are recognizable by their yellow colour.
A2S has a wide choice of emergency phones and call terminals. The ISIS-ml GSM / VoIP waterproof emergency call terminal seemed to be the best solution. It consists of a robust SMC housing made of thick steel, ideal for a difficult environment. It is thus adorned against any act of vandalism, shocks and even weather. This type of emergency call terminal is most often used on motorways or in industrial areas.
The ISIS call terminal is intended for environments requiring a strong and waterproof GSM phone. It allows you to make calls at any time, from a button. In the case of our client, the SOS terminal is connected to the 15th, the UAS. The quick number is programmable, on site or remotely, as required. Finally, ISIS works without handsets, facilitating its use.
